"Obedience to the call of Christ nearly always costs everything to two people--the one who is called, and the one who loves that one."

"Obedience to the call of Christ always gives one much more in return than the cost of being obedient, even though obedience costs one everything. Disobedience to the call of Christ always costs much more than one can afford. Being obedient to the call of Christ because of the future benefits indicates that one has the wrong motivation for obeying and therefore obedience will prove to be impossible. True obedience always comes out of love and faithfulness. English does not have a good word to describe this. In Hebrew this is called "hesed". It is exemplified by Ruth in the Hebrew scriptures."
